History of Electrical Services Contractor
Nor-tec Electric
At Nor-tec Electric we pride ourselves on the strong and constant reputation that precedes us – a reputation that is ours thanks to a very successful history in the Manitoba construction industry.
Our story spans more than 25 years with numerous landmark events along the way.
In 1985, Nor-tec Electric was incorporated in the province of Manitoba. The company offered electrical service work and smaller installations.
Brothers Mitch and Mike Zajac had over 15 years of electrical experience between them with expertise in refrigeration and HVAC control wiring. Nor-tec evolved from the true definition of a start-up with a yellow page ad to a 50-man operation by the mid-‘90s.
Nor-tec foresaw the benefits of being a one-stop shop for both electrical and mechanical services and acquired Mikkelsen Coward in 1996, which added 40 people to the company’s workforce.
Nor-tec and Mikkelsen-Coward continued to grow and look for more ways to add value for clients to both companies.
When the Zajacs started Nor-tec in the ‘80s, the goal was simple – they wanted to be the nice guys who would finish first. Today, they are the owners and executive management for the premier electrical and mechanical contractors in the province. Nor-tec Electric and Mikkelsen-Coward are 180 employees strong, and the businesses occupy a 16,000-square-foot head office on Notre Dame Avenue in Winnipeg as well as a nearby 14,000-square-foot storage facility.
